Some people dont know what the cornhole game is. Different areas of the country have different games and traditions, including cornhole. The cornhole game is sometimes called the bean bag toss. A lot of people probably remember playing a version of this came when they were very young. It could have been used as a backyard party game. Most schools had it as part of their P.E. curriculum. Schools stopped playing these types of games, however. The curriculum has changed. What kinds of games are played at family parties are also quite different than they were 20 to 30 years ago. It has been noted lately that the cornhole games popularity is growing again.

Corn is not always used in the cornhole bags anymore. Often, the newer bags have sand as a filling. Sometimes, they are filled with beans. Filling the cornhole bags with beans is often why they are called bean bags. There are regulations on what size the bags must be. Each bag is 6 square inches and made of a material called duck cloth. This material is a woven cotton fabric which is heavy and rather plain. The same duck cloth that is used for beanbags is used for tents as well. Cornhole bags are thrown and points are scored for hitting the target or the board around it.

The main platforms used for the games are called cornhole boards. The cornhole board or platform has a hole in it. The name of the hole in the board is the cornhole. People that play the game use this hole for a target. Hitting the board also gains points. The highest number of points come from hitting the hole with the bag. The board that is used must be a specific size. A 2 foot by 4 foot platform is what is required. The most common material to make these boards from is wood. Plastic is another common material for cornhole platforms. Wood is still more popular, but plastic is acceptable as well. Commercial manufacturers generally use plastic to make cornhole boards. It typically lasts longer than wood and usually doesnt cost as much.

It is not difficult to play the cornhole game. Each player stands thirty feet from the board. Each player aims for the hole with the bag that he or she tosses. Each time the bag goes in the hole a player gets points. If the bag hits the board and stays there, players also get points. If a bag doesnt stick it gets no points. Singles games pit one person against another. Playing in teams of two is also possible in the cornhole game. A doubles game also requires two cornhole boards. Each team gets to have a separate board in doubles play. When doubles are played it is necessary to use two cornhole boards.

People can buy cornhole set. Sets can be bought that contains board, bags, and instructions. Cornhole sets do not cost much. A lot of enjoyment can be found with these sets. Many people use this game at parties, picnics, and other gatherings. The cornhole game is more popular in specific areas of the country. The popularity of the cornhole game is growing throughout other areas of the country. There are likely people that would not enjoy the cornhole game, however. Technology has stopped many people from playing the older games because they forget how much fun they can be. People who enjoy simpler games would still enjoy the cornhole game.
